I think that the best example of how to do that is the life of Jesus Christ. He loved the unlovable. He dedicated His life to reaching out to those who were rejected. He prayed for His enemies. The only way I know of to love those who hate you is by the power of God, realizing that God loved us when we were still enemies to Him. We have to see those who hate us as human beings, are often people who have a great amount of pain in their lives and need us to reach them with the love of God. I know you didn't ask specifically for a religion-related response, but this is the only solution that I know of for this question.
