How do you get an international student visa in the U.S.A.?

I wonder whether the process of getting an international student visa is hard. I’ve heard about the cases when people have been refused a visa thus missing an opportunity to attend courses. I’d like to go to America. I’m interested in how to apply for student visa in USA. Is there only one kind of them or do they differ in any way? I’ve heard about a student visitor visa and student work visa. How do they differ? As far as I understand you can get a work when you get the second type? Or is there any catch?

Applying for international student visas is easier than it may seem, especially in America. Many people think that the States are so hard to get in because you have to gather many documents and spend some time waiting for a reply. In reality, this country is used to the constant flow of students and doesn’t pay so much attention to the applicants.

Mainly, there are three types of visas for students: F-1, J-1, M-1. The first type is for those students who come to study in an accredited U.S. university. Also, if you come to study English at an English language institute, you can also apply for this type.

The J-1 student visa is meant for people who take part in an exchange program. It also should be noticed that both high school and university students have to use it.

The M-1 student visa is for vocational studies or training in the country.

Your institution has to issue you special forms proving your student status. Make sure that your establishment is certified by SEVP.

You have to document your family’s income if it will pay for your education and stay. Remember that your bank account has to be active. It is better to provide a detailed information from your bank with a valid history.

I hope I’ve your question of how to apply for a student visa in USA.

As for a student visitors visa, you are mistaking it for the international studies in the UK. It functions there. Basically, this is a type of a visa/pass for people who come to undertake a course for a short period of time. For most studies, the period should be under six months. If you are going to the country for an English language course, the period is lengthened to almost a year. As far as I understand, you have to gather the standard set of documents including the regular passport, photos, bank account information, proof of travel and accommodation arrangements, etc.

I haven’t actually heard anything about student’s work visa in UK or America. As far as I know, students are not allowed to work. The only place I know that allows you to work in Canada while you are on a student pass. In any case, you can get a job only on campus and it must be part-time. I hope this information helps you.

Getting an international student visa seems scarier than it really is. I fully agree on this point. I’ve gone through the whole process myself and can say that you don’t to be afraid. In any case, even if you cannot do it all by yourself, there are many companies that will gladly do it all for you for a small pay. Of course, the prices may range greatly. Choose something in between. Visit only reliable companies with good reputation or listen to the advice of your friends.

How long does it take to get a student visa? Well, it all depends on the country, of course. However, another factor that may have influence is the time of a year. If you apply for a visa during those times when academic year is about to start, you will wait longer. I understand that most courses have similar schedules, but you should at least try to avoid this “rush hour.”
