The relationship between the mass(M), density(Ï) and the volume(V) is given by: M = Ï x V. Thus, the mass can be calculated only if the density and volume are known. Density is a measure of the amount of substance per unit of volume, so the mass could not be calculated until the volume of the substance is known.
