The emancipation proclamation allowed companies to hire the former slaves and to increase their production and operation of enterprises. Most of the crop land and ranched of the slaves and increase the availability of food for the Northern territories. It also serves to protect the North or in the Union of being attacked by the British forces that had the aim of supporting the confederate forces. The United Kingdom banned slavery so they could not politically backup of the confederates of the South. At the end of the war also allowed or provided a way for Northern men of Business to sell machinery and to help Southern entrepreneurs to learn how to do business without the use of slaves. Keep in mind that this was not a great effort or very cost-effective effort in part of the Northern business men. Please see the attached link for more details.
