How can you be the best version of yourself?

I have read some good advice on this forum. I hope you can help me too. I desire to be appreciated more. If there is any information on how to be the best version of yourself, please give it to me. I don’t think I have been showing the best part of me. How can I improve myself? I cannot continue living life while feeling that I am not the best person I can be. I want to show my potential. I need some self improvement goals to guide me.

Yes, we can help you. For one to be the best version of himself, he/she must endeavor to appreciate some crucial facts. These include the following.

  • You must recognize that you are currently better than you think. You may imagine you are so badly off until you meet the person who has weaknesses that you don’t have. So there is always something great about you. The first thing is to recognize it. Try to list down your positive qualities, and you will be surprised that there are so many of them. You will immediately feel good about yourself. This change of attitude is the first step on how you can improve.
  • You must realize that there are some things you are not currently doing that you should. List these down too as your personal weaknesses. They will point you to areas you need to improve on in your life. Remember, a habit is only a weakness if it impedes you from achieving your objectives. For instance, constant lateness may result in doing work late, missing appointments or losing opportunities. This is an area you can improve on. It does not mean you are worse than others; it is just an area to make better.
  • It is great that you want some goals for self-improvement to guide you. That is my third point. Once you have identified your strengths and weaknesses, the next step is to identify your goals. The trick with goals is that they can be long term or short term.  You should list them separately. The long-term goals will be achieved through a series of short-term goals. If you want to build a home, for instance, that is a long-term goal. The first step towards achieving it is to get a job or start a business. The latter is the short-term goal. Your next short-term goal will be to get a mortgage. Then your next one will be to repay the mortgage on time. By that time, you will have bought your home.
  • It is your achievement of these goals that will collectively make you a better person than you are today. You will not only feel better, but you will also be an inspiration to others. Soon some honest people will tell you that you are their role model. I don’t know what sounds better than that in this world.

It is always exciting to come across an individual who wants to improve his life. Too many of us are consumed with whining about our deficiencies. Goals for self-improvement are a useful guide towards being better. To me, they come first, even before the self-assessment begins. It is important to note that on the way to achieve these goals, numerous obstacles will arise. You may find a job, but you are not fully qualified for it. This may call for you to pursue some studies before going for the job again. That is called persistence. Without persistence, most of the great things we see today would not have been achieved. There is also a constant need for improvement.  Sitting back and celebrating your achievements is OK. But you must know that it is a temporary thing. Being satisfied with one achievement will leave you feeling deficient once again.
