How can I tell if my Mathematics answers are correct?

I always want to be sure that the answers I have written in my homework assignments are correct. For geometry assignments, I use a geometry proof solver to check if my answers are correct and for algebra homework, I use a mobile phone app that solves algebra problems. However, I am not sure how to check complex mathematics problems to find out if the answers are correct. What is the best way to know if the mathematics answers I have are correct for both simple and complex mathematics problems?

I think it is quite impressive that you have figured out how to confirm your geometry and algebra answers. Most people don’t know how to use geometry proof solvers and most people require a lot of help when it comes to solving algebra problems.

It’s not easy to know if all your Math answers are correct. However, there are a number of things you can do to determine whether you have the right answers. These include:

  • Use a Calculator

It is not wrong to use a calculator to check your answers if you have already calculated the math problems. However, if you discover that your answers are incorrect; do not just change the answer. Take some time to go through your work to identify where you might have gone wrong and correct your mistakes until you arrive at the right answer. If you just change the answer, you might not get any credit for the work because your teacher will assume you used your calculator to do all your work.

  • Use Inverse Operations

An inverse operation is an opposite operation that can undo another equation. Division and multiplication are inverse operations. Addition and subtraction are also inverse operations. For example, if you were doing an addition problem, you can use the same numbers to make a subtraction equation. If your answer is any of the numbers you have, your answer is correct. If it is not, you should do your calculations again. This works even for algebra hw.

  • Set Your Homework Aside and Get Back to It Later

If you are having a hard time with your homework, complete it and set it aside for some time. After you have taken a break, try doing the problems again using different formulas without checking your previous work. Once you are done, compare your answers to see if they are the same. If they are, the answers are probably correct.

  • Get Help

It is also a great idea to have someone else look at your work. Make sure it is someone who is good at mathematics. Most people who are great at Math will not even have to calculate the math problems to tell if they are correct. The best thing about seeking help is that you can ask the person to teach you how to solve the math problems you did not get right. This is better than checking the answers because you learn in the process.

Personally, I do not think it is necessary to check your mathematics answers before you submit your homework. If you are confident you have done your homework to the best of your ability, you shouldn’t go through the trouble of checking the homework again. One of the disadvantages of checking your answers is that you might find that most of your answers are incorrect. This will force you to repeat your homework which will be very time consuming especially if you have no clue how to correct the problem. Checking your answers might also affect your confidence especially if you realize that most of the questions are wrong. If I were in your situation, I would hand in my homework without making any changes to it and wait for the results. When the results are out, I would check which questions I got wrong and work on learning how to do them so that I can get them right the next time.
