Has anyone attended the SHPE conference? Is it really worth it?

My friend is trying to persuade me to attend the SHPE conference. I am curious to know if this conference is really worth it. There are many other student events and I don’t see why attending the SHPE national conference should be the first one on my mind. It’d be great if someone gave me a firsthand insight into the event to help me decide if I should attend it. It is being held in Cleveland and attending it would be costly.

For me, being an attendee at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) conference was one of the most beneficial decisions in my life. If you are a Hispanic who wants to gain a lot while completing your college education, this is the opportunity you shouldn’t miss out on. However, I must add that the national conference conducted by SHPE does not discriminate based on race or origin, so anyone is free to attend it. It helped me improve my leadership skills, and gave me an idea on how I can present myself during interviews. If you attend the conference, you will surely be able to network with other like-minded individuals from your field of study. You’ll also be able to meet successful professionals who have pursued the same subjects you have. This is, by far, one of the best events for students, and I say this because it provides the opportunity to get hired by top companies that also attend the event. To know the details of the conference, you can visit http://shpe.org/events. This conference has changed the lives of many people by inspiring them to be aware of their potential. It also encourages them to impact others by creating awareness, developing and supporting them. This is done through improving their skills and expanding their networks at all levels. High school students, college students as well as professionals take part in it. In fact, more than six thousand students, professionals and corporate representatives attend this event. I met several deans and advisors from some of the best universities when I attended the conference. It showed me opportunities that I wasn’t aware of. Most importantly, the conference will help you understand what you are lacking and what you should develop if you seek to be employed by the top recruiters in the industry. There are chances you’ll make some really good friends who’ll be with you for the rest of your life (I say that from my personal experience!). It is helpful to find someone who has the same passion and career goal as you, and who is also at the same mental wavelength as you. One thing I’d suggest before attending the conference: make sure you have a couple of really good questions ready to ask the professionals you’ll be meeting at the event. You can clear a lot of doubts in your mind regarding your career path.

I agree that the SHPE conference is quite useful for students. You will be exposed to more than 200 corporations, universities as well as associations. It will help students connect with professionals from their industry. I heard many students got offered wonderful job opportunities. Others learned a lot regarding the interview process. I do find the membership fee a little exorbitant though. However, the luncheons and the speaker talks make up for it. Especially if you find a helpful professional to guide you regarding your career, it is worth your money and time. I still suggest it’s better to look out for other such events for students if this one seems far-fetched. There are many events that are held free of cost for students and provide the same kind of exposure like this conference. Also, you can look out for events in your own city. There’s always some fantastic student events going on somewhere!
