False. George Washington was a Federalist. He was a great fundalemtal military leader in the victory over the British in the war that culminated in the independence of the usa. After the war, in 1789, under the provisions of the Constitution of the united States, Washington was elected by the Electoral College the first president of the united States. Re-elected in 1793, Washington created a powerful centralized government, managed, however, with the consensus of the representatives of each state.
