Marine life such as fish, birds, whales, dolphins and seals are affected by oil spills. The oil sticks to the birds preventing them from flying. The whales and dolphins and other creatures that use blow holes you can get oil in your airways, making breathing difficult. Animals can also ingest the oil. This can prove to be fatal in the short or long term.
