Do law schools do criminal background checks on applicants?

That probably depends on the school. Regardless, if you have a criminal record, you must inform the school(s) you are applying for to know. When you apply to become a member of the of the bar, the bar is going to do a thorough background check. Letting your potential school(s) know is advantageous because the Dean may be able to help you to improve your chances of being admitted to the bar.
