Yes, the active process of the disease can be stopped by antibiotics. The term chronic lyme disease is often used for patients in whom the disease is recurrent. This is due to the disease stays dormant or in remission once it is introduced into the bloodstream. It is still there but can remain inactive or latent always in some patients, and then many patients have recurrent Lyme for years. There are also many co-infections associated with Lyme Disease. A co-infection, Babesiosis, may not be treated at the same time that Lyme is being treated as they are treated differently. Therefore, when dealing with success, the other often re-appear.
