The tax refund can be taken to pay what is called tax liens or offsets. If you have any unpaid debt to a State or Federal Government Agency, so, yes, your tax refund will be taken to apply to this debt. Most common element that result in displacement are defaulted Student Loans, overpayment of Social Security Benefits, payments in excess of Food Stamps or other social assistance programs, of the Debt pre-tax income for the state or for federal taxes, the government and the debts that you have with a federal or state agency.
