The land of Brazil became the settlement of an African colony, composed of runway slaves. This group was called the Songhay. Songhay was one of the empires that arose in West Africa. Originally, its capital was Gao, near the Niger river. That then expanded to reach other parts of the world, including Brazil and in other parts, near the Atlantic Ocean.
