The Mask of the Red Death is an allegory. An allegory is a storywith a lesson, a hidden message or double meaning, as the Tortoiseand the Hare. This type of history can not only a literalmessage but also moral, spiritual, political, or symbolicmessage. Maybe the lesson here is that you should never ignorethe inevitable. or maybe everyone's going to die-if isgruesome as Edgar Allan Poe wants to be or not.
