According to Jean Piaget, children in middle childhood experience an increase in their ability to solve specific problems. Grow in terms of their understanding of the abstract concepts around the math. They also acquire the ability to understand the causal relationships between things (cause and effect), and the ability to weigh objects in your head without being expelled by the sizes / shapes of things.
