Nerve poisons, or nerve gases are organic chemicals that interfere with the mechanism by which nerves transfer messages to organs. The interference is the result of the blockade of acetylcholinesterase, the enzyme that catalyzes the breakdown of acetycholine, a neurotransmitter. Therefore, a poison that blocks acetylcholine receptors on dendrites can reduce or decrease the binding of acetycholine to their receptors on the postsynaptic membrane.
